With the curtains down for the Sylhet’s BPL 2017 there has been almost a complete straightforward chase taking the Khulna Titans trail ahead by six wickets for open their point’s account for this season’s BPL league. The home franchise of Sylhet Sixers had been relegated towards their first loss in the four matches played.
Khulna, who held the entire chase in 18 overs, was actually supported by from Michael Klinger’s ultimate calm leading him to receive his performance. This Australia batsman scored 47 not out runs with his BPL debut receiving support from Carlos Brathwaite, who also fled with score of an unbeaten 23, towards his home cruise style.
Batting up with the game commencement, Sylhet scored a total score of 135 for 5 on the back of Captain Nasir Hossain’s 47. The sluggish natured surface however restricted the batsmen from getting those big shot attempts, Mahmudullah and the impressive West Indies bowler Jofra Archer, paced up well and bowled in a consistent form over 145 clicks, taking two wickers each.
After conglomerating 200 plus during their first game, Khulna have been highly consistent in their lengths and this acted as a help for them to overcome their poor start, soon after Upul Tharanga and Danushka Gunathikala went briefly on a run-riot. Gunathilaka scored 26 of 25 balls.
Nasir and Ross Whiteley followed the add-on of 57 runs for the fifth wicket strategic play without any zing about their batting. Nasir finished at an unbeaten 47 off 35 balls adding five boundaries whereas the aggressive Whiteley scored 27 off 23 balls totalling to 135.
However, it was actually Klinger’s calm that helped the other side keep scoring adding to the Khulna’s score. Prevailing the game show, Mahmudullah and Klinger added 50 more runs for the fourth wicket, till the Khulna’s captain got caught at long-on in the 14th over. Brathwaite, batting at No. 6, began his strike with a six and in the same over Klinger struck two fours reducing the targeted score down to 23 runs off the last five overs. With such a strategic game show, rest of the run chase remained a mere formality and Khulna could open their points score account for the current BPL series.
