The official broadcaster for all events under Asian Cricket Council, Star Sports has decided to keep up with its successful multi-language and multi-screen broadcast strategy for the cricket tournament of Asia Cup 2018 in September, scheduled in ODI format. It is Asia Cup’s 14th edition and the tournament is being played in the UAE for the third time, after 1984 and 1995. In this tournament, India is playing as defending champion.
Earlier, the broadcaster has used this strategy for qualifier and group matches for Indian Premier League 2018 in six different languages, along with five Indian languages – Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Bangla and Kannada on ten different channels. When IPL 2018 final was broadcast on May 17 on 17 channels, live feed was available in 8 languages.
Their strategy was successful in IPL. The exclusive and official broadcaster for Asia Cup in which 6 countries are playing in the United Arab Emirates, Star Sports will continue the same also for biannual tournament. According to the release, nine channels have been dedicated for the one-day international tournament for Asian Cricket Council.
From September 15 to 28, the Asia Cup 2018 will be held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai including five members – Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and qualifier. The matches are scheduled to be played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium and Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
On September 19, India will play against Pakistan in the major revenge match after their shocking defeat in the final match of ICC Champions Trophy last year on June 18, when Pakistan thrashed India significantly by 180 runs and brought Champions Trophy to their home.
If no further changes in scheduled match, these two teams may face each other thrice within the next 10 days, along with the Super Four Round, introduced for another time in Asia Cup and in final match on September 18.
Campaign Schedule and Live Telecast – The broadcaster will officially release campaign and media schedule for ACC Asia Cup on August 13, Monday in Mumbai. Star Sports will promote the Asian championship with a flashy title of “The Clash of Asian Giants”.
Star Sports will broadcast all the matches of ACC Asia Cup, along with final match live on Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Hindi HD, Star Sports 1 HD, Star Sports 1, Star Sports Select HD, Star Sports Select, Star Sports 2 HD, Star Sports 2, and Star Sports Tamil. All games will also stream live on Hotstar, their OTT platform.
Asia Cup 2018 Qualifier and Telecast – From August 29 to September 6 2018, Asia Cup Qualifier is scheduled in Malaysia. In the event, six Asian Associate Nations will also be featured – Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. From the group stage, the top two teams will play in final with winner in Group A of Asia Cup 2018.
